Simple. Reliable. Flexible.
That has been what we strive for with our Mediasite solutions. We are committed to making accessibility a top priority. So, today on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) – and everyday – we are committed to accessibility to ensure an equitable learning experience for all your users.
We measure our products against ambitious standards. Because of our strong commitment, we believe that our products should not just be accessible but welcoming to all users.
In the modern world many services, ranging from the everyday convenience to critical lifesaving services, are exclusively or primarily available digitally. All your users, including those with disabilities or impairments, need to be able to successfully participate in these services. Being accessible is about being aware of different users’ needs and working to bring equity to the digital world.
This awareness and commitment to inclusion is the goal of GAAD, a global event that shines a light on digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities. Over one billion people worldwide have disabilities or impairments, including visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive impairments. So we ask ourselves, what good is the power of video learning if everyone can’t take advantage of it?
One way that Mediasite is committed to accessibility is by publishing Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) documents for our products. VPATs show exactly how we measure up against the stringent industry standard WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.0 and 2.1 metrics. We released an updated VPAT for Mediasite Video Platform with version 7.6.0 and will have an updated version yet again with our next summer release. We are also auditing our accessibility within our Mediasite Mosaic desktop capture app and on our Mediasite Recorders, with VPAT updates coming in those spaces as well. The most current versions of our VPATs can be found here.
In our winter 2020 release, we took the initiative to enhance accessibility within our entire product. Now it’s even easier for a screen reader to access and read content and for users with impaired vision to more easily view content. Additionally, we have formed an accessibility focused working group with our customers. This work will come to full fruition in our summer release, with wide ranging enhancements (more to come!). One of the things we are most excited about is the inclusion of themes. In addition to the standard theme that Mediasite has used for years, we are introducing a dark theme and a high contrast theme.
We believe that when it comes to accessibility, the work is never done. We are constantly working to improve our products and make them more accessible and welcoming to all our users. We reaffirm our commitment to you — our users — and we celebrate accessibility, not just today, but every day.
