Lecture Capture a ‘Good Support for the Students’ at Hamburg University of Technology

April 22, 2016

When Professor Herbert Werner of Hamburg University of Technology first learned that he could record his lectures, he was a bit skeptical. He worried using lecture capture would disrupt class.

“I must say, when I tried it I was very positively surprised,” he said of using Mediasite. “There are two windows – my lecture in one. A camera is following me on the blackboard. A second window shows the bigger picture. Sometimes I use slides to support the material I’m developing on the blackboard, like simulation results or diagrams. These slides are also in that big window.”

He’s heard extremely positive feedback from his students, too.

As for the feared class disruption:

“I hardly realize that the lectures are recorded,” he said. “All I have to do is put on a microphone. I have to do that anyway in the large lecture halls. It’s a really good support for the students.”

This is part of a continuing series about our 2016 Enterprise Video Award finalists. The award program recognizes Mediasite users for revolutionizing video in their organizations. Winners will be announced during Unleash 2016, our Mediasite User Conference May 2-4 in Madison, Wis.
