Health Professionals in Cancer Immunotherapy Earn CME Credits with Mediasite Webcasts

March 09, 2018

Challenge:

sitcThe Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is a global association for professionals working in the field of cancer immunotherapy.

SITC is the world’s leading member-driven organization specifically dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy. SITC membership is comprised of a dynamic global network of more than 1,900 people — basic and clinical scientists, practitioners, industry professionals, government leaders and students working in cancer immunology and immunotherapy.

Each year SITC hosts an Annual Meeting where the cancer immunotherapy community can meet in person for scientific exchange, education and networking. SITC 2017 was the largest Annual Meeting to date with more than 3,500 attendees on site Nov. 8 to 12 in National Harbor, MD.

Recognizing that not everyone is able to attend due to time or budget constraints, SITC wanted a way to engage attendees online from the comfort of their homes or offices while at the same time offering them a way to earn continuing education credits.

Solution:

For the first time, SITC used Mediasite Events to create a live online conference experience for its Annual Meeting.

Mediasite Events’ team of experienced project managers helps companies and educational conferences, like SITC 2017, stream events to the world and engage attendees from any location. Organizations can either partner with Mediasite Events for turnkey streaming services – complete with custom registration, live chat, ecommerce solutions and analytics to measure the impact of the online experience – or use its rental services to make the job of streaming events easier.

SITC rented Mediasite Recorders to stream broadcast-quality HD video of its meeting. The Mediasite Events team was available for real-time support remotely if needed.

Online attendees could watch select sessions live online, including:

  • Hot Topic Symposium: Advancing the Field – Can Physics and Mathematics Impact the Development of Tumor Immunotherapy?
  • Genetically Modified Cell Therapy

Numerous sessions and presentations were also recorded for attendees to review on-demand after the conference.

Results:

Live streaming with Mediasite addressed the anticipated standing-room-only situation with these popular sessions. SITC created an overflow room for sessions like those that were widely attended. Attendees could also watch the live stream remotely via Mediasite.

Plus, physicists and mathematicians are not the typical attendees at the Annual Meeting. So, streaming the Hot Topic Symposium was a great way to engage those audiences virtually.

Anyone – onsite or online — who watched the live Mediasite content was eligible to receive continuing education credits after completing a survey about the program.

In addition to the Annual Meeting, SITC works with Mediasite Events to stream some of its smaller regional programs throughout the year.

The content presented at SITC’s meetings lives on long after the last sessions, and attendees can reference the valuable knowledge shared anytime, anywhere on-demand.
