Challenge:
Osgoode Professional Development (OsgoodePD) is a world leader in law school lifelong learning. Part of Osgoode Hall Law School, one of the oldest and best law schools in Canada, OsgoodePD offers credit and non-credit programs for Canadian and international lawyers, paralegals, non-law professionals, and firms and organizations.
The Continuing Legal Education programs range from one-hour briefings, to conferences and short courses, to multi-day non-credit certificates taught by practicing lawyers and a range of experts in other disciplines.
As a national provider, OsgoodePD saw increasing requests for accessibility due to travel and budget constraints of its members, alongside shifting market demands and advances in technology. To ensure the non-profit’s longevity, OsgoodePD needed to make sure its programming reached as many people as possible by offering relevant and high-quality programming for its students both in-person or online; live or on demand.
Solution:
In 2008, OsgoodePD researched and procured various webcasting platforms. Given the non-profit’s sophisticated needs, it chose Mediasite.
In addition to offering a distance learning option via live webcasts, non-credit programs were captured, enabling content to be repurposed and sold on demand through ecommerce functionality on the OsgoodePD website.
Results:
Without leaving their desks or home, since 2008 more than 20,000 professionals have stayed up to date on the latest legal best practices, earned CLE credits and accessed the vast catalog of courses. OsgoodePD has created more than 1,500 programs to date, all of which are hosted in the Mediasite Video Cloud and available on the OsgoodePD.ca website on demand 24/7.
“Mediasite is a cutting-edge technology. It’s state-of-the-art and easy to use, and the customer service response is great,” said Crystal Wood, Manager, Program & Event Services, OsgoodePD. “It’s becoming more difficult for professionals to find the time and money to be able to travel, but Mediasite gives them flexibility and increased access to content, without compromising the quality of programming OsgoodePD is known for.”
