Mediasite in Action Award: Auckland University of Technology Students Submit Work via My Mediasite Videos

April 18, 2017

This is part of a continuing series highlighting the 2017 Enterprise Video Award finalists.

Challenge:

Auckland University of Technology instructors aim to provide students with real-world, contemporary experiences in their studies. Central to this is the use of assessment tools to allow students to become more experienced and comfortable in the world in which they live and work.

Solution:

My Mediasite provides a secure, seamless environment in which students can submit video representations of their work. Over the past two years, lecturers have explored the use of academic video with Mediasite to increase student success.

Results:

In 2016, more than 1,200 students used My Mediasite in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to use My Mediasite,” said Edwina Pio, a professor teaching a Master’s Human Resource Development course. “It promises to do many wonderful things with ease of navigation for students and ease for faculty, as well, to be able to mark the students for their work.”

Lisa Ransom, a member of the Learning Technology team, supports midwifery students in a three-year program. The students use My Mediasite to upload their video assignments.

“With the use of a mobile, students were able to record and upload their assignments into My Mediasite and then send the link to their lecturers,” she said.

“From the Center for Learning and Teaching, we’re very keen to continue to promote this technology,” said Mark Northover, Head of Centre for Learning and Teaching.
