Congratulations to The University of Leeds, one of our most strategic customers, on earning the highest honors in the prestigious Teaching Excellence Framework.
TEF awarded University of Leeds a gold rating, citing, among other things, that “students from all backgrounds achieve consistently outstanding outcomes” and that independent learning is supported by “outstanding physical and digital resources.”
“Our lecture capture initiative, with Mediasite at its heart, was of great strategic importance in winning this award and has had a transformational impact for our students,” said Professor Neil Morris, Director of Digital Learning at Leeds.
The university launched the world’s largest end-to-end automated and integrated lecture capture installation in the fall of 2014 in more than 250 rooms simultaneously. Faculty have used Mediasite to create more than 110,000 academic videos to date that receive over 1 million views each year. The initiative catapulted the university into a digital campus and had immediate and sustained positive impact on teaching and learning.
“The University of Leeds has built an exceptional academic video program with Mediasite, among the biggest and best in the world. The university understands that today’s students expect to have the best learning technologies in their classrooms for a more flexible and personalized experience,” said Gary Weis, Sonic Foundry CEO. “With Mediasite, students can review lecture recordings anytime, giving them that extra confidence that they won’t miss a beat. The University of Leeds continues to pave the way for institutions worldwide, and it is an honor to be in its presence. Congratulations to Leeds on this well-deserved award.”
The program, run by Higher Education Funding Council for England, recognizes universities and other higher education institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland with a gold, silver or bronze rating. They’re scored based on student data, dropout rates, graduation outcomes and a panel review process. The program helps inform prospective students’ choices within higher education.
