Helping our community one patty at a time: Mediasite kicks off corporate volunteer program

Did you know that Second Harvest Foodbank distributes millions of pounds of food each year through its network of partner agencies and programs? We learned this after spending a fantastic day with its team recently to officially kick off our formal Mediasite volunteer program.

According to a study by Deloitte, 89 percent of employees think organizations with volunteer programs are a better overall working environment, 74 percent think that volunteerism provides an improved sense of purpose, and there is a major link between employee engagement and volunteering. It’s a great study – you should really read it! We couldn’t agree more with these findings and wanted to create a program for our team.

After learning more about Second Harvest and their amazing work, including helping thousands of people in Wisconsin receive access to millions of meals each year, we got down to business. And by down to business, I mean A LOT of hand washing followed by measuring A LOT of chicken patties.

We sorted through box after box of frozen patties, weighing them and putting them into smaller bags so they could be distributed to families at local food banks.

Counting all of those patties was just the beginning for our team. We are looking forward to working with Second Harvest again in the new year, as well as setting up partnerships with other local agencies to create ongoing volunteer and education opportunities for our staff.
