How A Global IT Association Increased Attendance at its Premier Event by Going Hybrid

April 12, 2016

Problem

With approximately 2,000 member companies, 3,000 academic and training partners, 75,000 registered users and more than 2 million IT certifications issued, The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has relationships all over the world.

The non-profit trade association offers industry-leading resources and networking opportunities for IT professionals and channel organizations, including certifications, business credentials and education.

An association that geographically distributed requires streamlined communication and training programs to be able to reach everyone despite time and distance.

Solution

CompTIA uses Mediasite to create educational content for association members — everything from live training sessions in its Downers Grove, Ill. headquarters to quarterly staff meetings that allow the entire association to attend online.

The association also uses Mediasite to make its premier training and partnering event, ChannelCon, hybrid. CompTIA first began recording keynotes and select sessions from the event, geared for IT vendors, distributors and solution providers. That led to the official launch of ChannelCon Online in 2014.

“With such a diverse offering to over 1,000 live attendees per event, the focus now was how to bring the exciting offerings of ChannelCon to an even larger audience,” said Michael Sutton, CompTIA. “ChannelCon Online was designed to allow people to attend educational sessions for their business and allow certified individuals to attend technical sessions to receive continuing education units to renew their certification. Mediasite’s extensive reporting capabilities allow us to track and apply these credits for individuals who attend the complete session.”

Results

CompTIA aimed to increase attendance by 10 percent in 2014 using Mediasite. That goal was exceeded — attendance increased 25 percent that year. In two days they had more than 5,000 live views, 700 unique visitors attending, and 350 attendees at its peak.

In 2015, that grew to more than 19,000 live views, 2,200 unique IP addresses and just under 900 attendees at its peak.

This is part of a continuing series about our 2016 Enterprise Video Award finalists. The award program recognizes Mediasite users for revolutionizing video in their organizations. Winners will be announced during Unleash 2016, our Mediasite User Conference May 2-4 in Madison, Wis.
