Wisconsin families and medical and legal professionals need to stay up to speed on the complex American multi-payer healthcare system. That’s easier said than done.
ABC for Health (Advocacy & Benefits Counseling for Health), a non-profit law firm in Madison, Wis., used to travel to its clients – attorneys needing continuing legal education, hospital staff, Wisconsin workforce resource center staff and consumers – to deliver in-person training.
The need for this training became more important then ever back when the Affordable Care Act became law in Wisconsin. Families and healthcare advocates needed help navigating a changing healthcare landscape. So ABC for Health sought an efficient way to get information out to a large number of people fast.
The firm turned to Mediasite to record informational webcasts. Its attorneys and health benefits counselors and advocates help clients learn about their options and resolve coverage questions, focusing on two areas: legal rights and insurance matters.
It uses streaming video to train direct providers on topics such how they can improve workflows, advocate for patients and answer patient queries. The firm also uses video to educate parents and consumers of healthcare services via its HealthWatch Wisconsin online video hub full of free informational videos.
“Policies and programs change constantly in the health care world. We can instantly do trainings and answer important questions in real-time with Mediasite using our HealthWatch Wisconsin training hub of on-demand webcast presentations,” said Bobby Peterson, founder and president of ABC for Health.
Everyone from healthcare workers and employers to parents and school nurses can log in, select the information they’re looking for and watch videos that address their needs.
ABC for Health uses Mediasite’s analytics to monitor viewing patterns to determine which topics are most popular and what viewers are struggling to understand.
“As healthcare programs change and rules get modified, we get a surge of interest. It’s nice for us to be able to point to another resource that we develop and for consumers to be able to see a quick answer,” said Brynne McBride, Chief Operating Officer, ABC for Health.
Mediasite makes reaching thousands of members across Wisconsin easy and affordable. ABC for Health uses an in-house studio to record weekly live and on-demand webcasts to enhance their established in-person educational offerings, reducing travel costs and meeting the growing demand for online health care training events.
“We can instantly reach thousands of people with Mediasite, compared to when we do in-person trainings with 50 people in a room,” McBride said. “Participants can ask questions and answer polls within Mediasite, too. We have so much fun recording videos. Instead of sitting down and writing an editorial to share with our members, we can use Mediasite to record engaging video.”
